Sparking Collaboration, Uniting a Campus. The ground floor of this Google workplace features large meeting rooms and a coffee shop to draw engineers from across the campus, increasing idea exchange and strengthening relationships. Inspired by the art of coffee making, the design palette references coffee’s warmth and richness. Walls clad in recycled burlap bags further the reference and introduce a tactile texture within the space. Just outside is an exterior deck with diverse seating, reinforcing indoor/outdoor connections. http://mithun.com/project/workplace-for-technology-engineers/ (link also in bio) 📷: Marco Zecchin Enterprises LLC/Image-center.com

Model making has always been a core part of our design practice. Old meets new in this pairing from our maker workspace—our all-star model maker, Ezra Homison, checks on progress in the 3D printer and architect Dustann Jones crafts in wood. 📷: Zhenru Zhang, Juan Hernandez

Designed for highly focused technology engineers, this Google workplace leverages biophilic principles to enhance concentration and collaboration, and lower stress. Code- and nature-inspired patterns integrate in unexpected ways through light installations, graphics and materials. A new skylit central stair promotes movement and visual connection between floors. Elements of surprise are dispersed throughout the building, like the hidden door within a library bookcase that leads to a quiet space for focus. It is amazing to see the new @NordicMuseum fill with people, art, music and cultural celebrations. A few of our favorite things: the current visiting exhibition, “Northern Exposure: Contemporary Nordic Arts Revealed”; the drama of shifting daylight in the fjord hall; the openness and welcoming spirit of both the museum and visitors; and the prospect of attending Nordic Nights programming this summer!

What an incredible journey! We are grateful to the residents of North Richmond for sharing their hopes, dreams and priorities for their community’s future with the Mithun Home Team as part of the Resilient by Design Bay Area Challenge. Recent highlights: Children painting sea level rods on Earth Day for temporary installation in Dotson Marsh to visualize sea level change in their community. Courtney and Miss Maria giving a tour through Urban Tilth Farm, which builds community, provides fresh food and fosters career paths for local residents through restoration training. And, finally, the champion of ouR-HOME: the fantastic North Richmond Community Advisory Board, including a diverse group of local residents, elected officials, public agencies and community organizations. Thank you, all! 📷: Sam Holman

This palette for Blakely Elementary School is all about its Bainbridge Island forest setting. Warm neutrals and mossy textures capture the forest floor, with a nod to lichen’s vibrant color at the micro level. We’re particularly excited that the library’s lichen-inspired carpet was designed nearby on the island and is Red List free! 📷: Zhenru Zhang

Before becoming an architect, David Bullaro was a chef. He recently spiced up our work day with hands-on exploration of salsa (not the dance). 📷: Zhenru Zhang
