Only seven months after competition award, concrete is being poured at @UCIrvine’s Middle Earth Expansion student housing! Forty-four trucks delivered concrete for the north tower’s five-foot-deep mat slab pour. When complete, the living/learning community will consist of two residential towers rising above a podium base that echoes the natural form of the surrounding region’s limestone canyons. 📷: Kaylyn Martinez

@UCIrvine Mesa Court Towers has received a 2017 COTE Honor Award from @AIA_LA! Mesa Court Towers is one of the greenest student living environments in the country with more than 75% of the program area naturally ventilated, including 100% of residential units. What an incredible bird’s eye view of the Puget Sound region, urban and rural! We’re excited to be working with @forterranw and King County on a visualization about the Transfer of Development Rights policy and marketplace, which helps focus growth in existing urban areas while conserving rural lands like working farmland and forests. When it opens in spring 2018, Block 136 will contribute to 24/7 activity in the Pearl District with a mix of office, residential, retail and restaurant spaces in two buildings. At the mid-block, a public courtyard features dining spaces and bocce to bring neighbors together. Images: Mir (@mir.no )
