Illuminated by winter light, the renovated lobby at 999 Third incorporates bold signage to improve wayfinding and update the identity of this 47-story high rise. Western maple walls feature angular patterning that recalls the building’s prominent structure and the Seattle grid—reinforcing connection to its greater context within the city and region. 📷: @laraswimmer

The Fauntleroy Way Apartments incorporate a mix of residential and commercial units, and foster a vibrant pedestrian environment linked to transit at a gateway to the West Seattle Junction neighborhood. A generous ground-level setback defines a raised walkway along the live/work units, inviting passers-by to linger and explore the shops. Image: Plompmozes

Check out the diagrid timber wave made possible by an 8-axis robotic mill! A member of our team recently attended a workshop at the @universityofbc Centre for Advanced Wood Processing that explored advanced timber fabrication techniques in architecture. The technology enables a digital loop between design and fabrication that opens new doors to innovation in timber construction, and potentially a re-interpretation of wood architecture. The design opportunities are exciting. More info and photos are available via @icdstuttgart at http://icd.uni-stuttgart.de/?p=21333 (link also in bio) 📷: @codyctucker

Volunteers from Mithun are partnering with @sawhorse.revolution to guide students in the design and documentation of a tiny house for a family experiencing homelessness. The team is meeting with eleven Franklin High School students over an eight-week period, teaching design concepts, studying precedent imagery, and hosting collaborative design charrettes and crits. This environment invites students into a memorable project, where ideas are realized, problem-solving skills are sharpened, and chances are taken to do something extraordinary for those around us. Next semester, @sawhorse.revolution will facilitate the construction of this house, built by the same students in collaboration with a professional builder in Seattle. 📷: Barron Peper
