Join us tomorrow for âAssessing your Buildingâs Whole Life Cycleâ at @AIANational #A18CON. We'll be sharing tools and implementation strategies with @LMNArchitects and @WalterPMooreEng. Fri, 6/22 at 10:30am https://t.co/sjYzVBzKC0 https://t.co/lgSEVh1nc6
The design of Miraval Resort and Spa shows how a whole-building approach to sustainability can create a sensory-rich experience for residents and guests. Sweeping views to the south and east connect the Catalina Mountains to Miraval’s campus and establish its character as a place for contemplation and healing. Rain is an event in the desert, so rain chains serve as drain spouts to express water audibly. Rammed earth walls, made from the local desert’s sandy soil, create efficient thermal shells with an ancient craft. 📷: Robert Reck
The Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias reopened to the public today! It’s been an honor working with Yosemite National Park and Yosemite Conservancy on significant ecological restoration and visitor improvements to the grove, “one of the world’s most significant natural and cultural resources.” http://www.latimes.com/travel/la-tr-yosemite-mariposa-grove-reopens-20180614-story.html

We joined together yesterday to celebrate the 100th birthday of our firm founder, Omer Mithun. He passed away in the early 1980s, but his legacy lives on through our shared passion for great design, community service and education. Happy Birthday, Omer! 📷: Greg Catron
Since last fall, Mithun team members Maggie Osial, Meghan Lewis, Nathaniel Smith and Zach Moshier have been partnering with Sawhorse Revolution and local high school students to design and build a tiny home that will go to support the Nickelsville Homeless Community. This project will change the life of someone experiencing homelessness. We hope that you’ll join us this Wednesday to celebrate the amazing gift that these talented youth have provided for their community!

Chatham University Eden Hall Campus has achieved LEED NC Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for the first phase of campus development, which includes the Field Labs, Dairy Barn Café and related site development. USGBC also recently recognized the project with a 2018 Best of Green Schools Award, noting that “Chatham University’s new Eden Hall is self-sustaining in every way.” 📷: @brucedamonte
Architectural Record magazine recently interviewed Mithun partners Anne Torney and Brendan Connolly for a special section examining challenges and opportunities facing firms of all sizes. “The Future of Practice: Large Firms,” explores the impacts of evolving project delivery, design technology and staff diversity on business models.
Diversity is one of the greatest challenges for large firms. Among the featured companies, “Mithun stands out on approaching gender equity: 44 percent of their partners and principals are women.” We value the diversity of our staff, and continue to build our team with a range of perspectives, disciplines and backgrounds to fuel innovation within the practice.
