Tradition Meets Innovation

Annie Wright Schools Boys Upper School and Gymnasium/Pool Expansion

Tacoma, WA

Connecting Past with Future

This campus expansion builds upon Annie Wright Schools’ century-old tradition with facilities for the new Boys Upper School program and enhanced spaces for students of all grades. Situated adjacent to the historic main building, the new three-story structure frames the entry courtyard and extends the campus fabric with a consistent material palette and rhythm of openings.

Educating the Whole Person

Flexible classrooms, shared learning and multi-purpose gathering spaces serve the school’s International Baccalaureate program and culture of inquiry. Specialized laboratory and maker spaces advance the rigorous curriculum and weave together the Boys and Girls programs through shared use. Newly expanded athletic facilities support student health and development in concert with academic engagement.

Sustainable Strategies

The building features a high-performance building envelope, generous daylight harvesting and low-impact site and stormwater design that legibly support learning. Connected outdoor instruction and gathering spaces, and natural ventilation contribute to a health-positive experience for students and faculty.
