This new workplace expresses the strong values of the Saltchuk family of companies, and unites its operations within a single headquarters for the first time. At the heart of the office, shared work spaces radiate from a communicating stair, reinforcing connection between businesses and strengthening personal relationships.

Boots to Suits

Workspaces are crafted to feel as comfortable for industrial workers as those who are in the office all day. Different scales of meeting spaces accommodate a range of work styles and support a family spirit—from casual break-out nooks to the high-tech command center and daylight-filled kitchens with communal tables.

Legacy Rooted in Place

Warm materials and stone fireplaces create a welcoming environment and ground the office experience in its Pacific Northwest setting. A vast art collection—including a 30-foot hand-carved totem pole that ascends three levels—details the vibrant history of the multi-generational family business and brings this legacy to life.

A three-story communicating stair wraps around a hand-carved 30-foot tall totem pole, the iconic "heart" of the office, constantly reminding employees of the past, present and future of their company.

Gracious kitchens on each floor support health and hospitality with natural materials including wood, leather and handmade ceramic tile. Fresh fruit and monthly cooking demonstrations bring employees together and enrich the workplace experience.

Shared kitchens occupy a prime corner of the office with expansive views of the Seattle skyline and waterfront. This priority position honors employees and highlights a longstanding culture of gathering for meals and conversations throughout the day.

The board room is formal, yet warm and comfortable. State-of-the-art AV capability is incorporated within a 22-foot live-edge red elm table.

The training room facilitates user control of daylight, electric light, presentation modes and flexible furnishings, and accommodates a range of meeting sizes and activities. Expansive views connect daily operations with the working waterfront beyond.

Abundant daylight and views envelop open work spaces along the building perimeter and wood-framed, glazed private offices at the core. The circulation corridor features white oak flooring reclaimed from shipping dunnage, a nod to the company’s transport businesses.

Bathed in light, the totem honors the family of transportation and distribution companies through woven motifs that celebrate its work spanning land, sea and air.
