Celebrating Diverse Perspectives

ARTS at King Street Station

Seattle, WA

Revealing History, Promoting Culture

ARTS at King Street Station is a welcoming, vibrant arts and cultural hub that highlights communities of color and honors indigenous origins. The space’s raw, unfinished character reveals the building’s evolution from an historic train station to a contemporary transit and cultural hub.

Diverse Identities, Changing Needs

Suspended from a custom-designed elevated track, eight kinetic display walls support a range of configurations to accommodate changing exhibitions. Just as important, the unadorned structure and kinetic walls allow artists and communities to project their own identities in the space.

Cultural Hub

In addition to gallery spaces, ARTS provides flexible, co-use areas for community gathering and workspace for the Office of Arts and Culture. A public “Living Room” connects the gallery with a studio for artists-in-residence. The space design responds directly to feedback from community focus groups and maximizes flexibility to meet the evolving needs of artists into the future.
