Affordable Housing for Mission Families
2060 Folsom combines critical affordable homes and an active community hub, showcasing Mithun’s integrated design as a vehicle for social equity. Inspired by the Mission District’s blend of civic participation and working-class heritage, the nine-story building houses families, transitional-age youth and in-house supportive services. The courtyard and paseo promote neighbor interaction and address stormwater issues on the flood-prone site.
Views and Connection
The building is conceived as a ‘front porch’ overlooking the new city park at Folsom and 17th streets. A south-facing courtyard draws sunlight and park views into the building, and integrates informal play with intimate outdoor spaces. The community room opens onto the courtyard, creating a ‘town square’ for events.
Dynamic Neighborhood Hub
The ground floor hosts an array of neighborhood services, including childcare and local organization offices. An incubator café on the southeast corner promotes local entrepreneurship. Streetscape murals by local artists continue the Mission’s tradition of public art.
