Urban Village for Undergraduates
University of Washington Nordheim Court
Seattle, WA
Linked Courtyard Communities
Nordheim Court gracefully integrates 134 apartment and townhouse units onto this urban site around a series of interconnected courtyards. Colorful facades, contemporary materials, stunning art and generous landscaping create an inviting setting that encourages community interaction.
Interactive Sustainability
This project was University of Washington’s first LEED certified building and appropriate to the educational environment, the development incorporates key sustainable design principles as tangible parts of residents’ experience. Students participate in the operation of energy management systems, and they enjoy fresh air and daylight through large, operable windows.
Urban Edge and Central Heart
The site design knits together with its urban edges while creating a central heart for the residents. Showpiece art, outdoor seating, a ‘main street’ courtyard and residential stoops provide opportunities to socialize and build community. A restored pond serves as a centerpiece of the open space, and supports stormwater retention on site.
