Vision for a New Campus Farm
UC Merced Experimental Smart Farm
Merced, CA
The Future of Agriculture Technology
Mithun developed the planning framework and net zero energy facilities design for research and field labs at the Experimental Smart Farm, a new center for research and education in sustainable agriculture. The farm will provide world class facilities and infrastructure to support research and new technologies, and explore the future of farm work.
Innovation for the Community and Industry
The project amplifies UC Merced’s outreach and initiatives in support of equity and resilience in California’s central valley. Accelerating collaboration with peer institutions and agricultural partners, the farm is envisioned as an incubator to develop new strategies and technologies to optimize efficiency and sustainability in typical agricultural processes.
Farm as Community Hub
Set on a 40-acre site near the southern boundary of campus, the Experimental Smart Farm will also serve as a vibrant community hub complete with a public farmer’s market and café, outreach events and rich array of learning opportunities for all ages.
