Innovative Learning for All

Haring Center for Inclusive Education

Seattle, WA

A New Foundation for Success

This comprehensive renovation transforms all aspects of the building’s systems, seismic structure and site, centering the Haring Center’s specialized mission throughout the design process. A landscaped entry sequence with both stairs and a wheelchair-accessible ramp welcome students, staff and visitors of all abilities to the center for inclusive education.

Turning Walls into Windows

A shared environment of open workstations and focus rooms improves visual connection and workflow efficiency for faculty, educators and researchers. Two central, highly visible courtyards with inclusive play environments optimize wheelchair accessibility, comfort and flexibility for physical therapy and child-driven recreation for neurodiverse users.

Enhancing Comfort and Wellbeing

The LEED Platinum certified project maximizes views to the adjacent Montlake Cut and improves daylighting inside, bringing biophilic design benefits to students and staff. Materials, colors and environmental graphics enhance wayfinding and evoke joy throughout the building.
