Join Mithun principal Kristen Belt for “Child Care and Affordable Housing: Lessons Learned from Co-location Projects,” a panel presentation that will examine the challenges and opportunities of co-locating childcare with affordable housing. Using Kapuso at the Upper Yard — a San Francisco development that combines 130 units of affordable housing with a YMCA childcare center — as a case study, the panel will explore how integrated planning can better support families and communities. Presenters from the design team, childcare operator and funders will share best practices and lessons learned from the Kapuso site and other co-location projects in San Francisco.

Attendees will receive a comprehensive look at the mutual benefits of colocation projects and learn what it takes to align these two critical services, from initial planning and relationship building to design coordination and ongoing operations. With affordable housing and childcare both representing a major investment in neighborhoods — especially in underserved communities — this session will offer actionable guidance for policymakers, developers, architects and childcare operators aiming to create more holistic and supportive environments.

Kristen’s co-presenters are YMCA of San Francisco executive director of ECE programs Anne Senores, Dorman Associates architect Ava Rahimi Farab and Low Income Investment Fund manager Sean Doocy.
