How we think about public space needs to rapidly shift to include and reflect changing demographics, growing populations and essential climate adaptations. To spur conversation about tools for design response, we are pleased to host “Rising Voices, Rising Vision: The Power of Public Space,” as part of the 2017 Seattle Design Festival. The panel discussion will explore questions like: How can we design with, not for, racially and economically diverse communities? Join us for the conversation on Monday, Sept. 18 at 6pm in the Seattle Central Library auditorium. http://bit.ly/2h7yzTs #SDF2017 #DesignPOWER

It's wonderful to see the new Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB) Francia Russell Center fill with the energy of students! PNB currently serves more than 1,000 students in Seattle and the Eastside, with nearly 30 faculty members. Our team members included Bonewitz, Sellen Construction, Coughlin Porter Lundeen and Stantec. Elaine Liffgens led us on a site visit of 450 Alaskan Way, where rustic roots find a contemporary home. A wooden trellis encourages movement through the lobby, which is long and linear due to below-grade parking constraints. The exposed brick of an adjacent building acts as a feature wall, highlighting the historic character of the Pioneer Square neighborhood. On the 9th floor, a lounge and amenity spaces lead to a roof deck offering panoramic views of the Seattle Waterfront and downtown.
