Set within an existing student residential neighborhood, @UCIrvine Verano 8 presents a new paradigm for graduate student housing on campus with a series of five higher-density apartment buildings adjacent to new community center that welcomes the entire Verano neighborhood. Integrated landscape, architecture and interior design focuses on holistic placemaking, sustainability, health and wellness. Large scrims enliven the active west edge of the project site, provide a unique identity for each building, and shade late afternoon solar exposure and heat gain. The communal plaza plays off a strong pedestrian axis and features bioretention planters that treat stormwater runoff. LEED Platinum and Fitwel certifications targeted.
