Everyone in the Boat

Green Lake Community Boathouse

Seattle, WA

Expanding Access to Water Sports

Located in one of Seattle’s busiest parks, the Green Lake Community Boat House is the new home to one of the most successful public youth rowing and paddling programs in the country. The fully accessible site, including a new public plaza and viewing platform, reconnects the park trail to the lake and provides access for visitors of all abilities to the water’s edge.

Enhancing a Community Amenity

More efficient and expanded boat storage on the ground level supports the growth of both youth and adult programs. A large multipurpose space on the upper level increases the facility’s capacity for meetings, community events and trainings, workouts and off-water instruction.

Stewardship of a Complex Site

Built between the remnants of the 1950’s-era Aqua Theater, the loop trail, the kayak storage building and significant trees, the new boathouse required a high level of site design coordination. Thoughtful engineering and stormwater approaches helped transform this tight waterfront plot into a high-performing community resource.
