Choreography of Experience
Benaroya Hall Public Spaces Renovation
Seattle, WA
Welcoming New Audiences
This reimagining of public spaces at Seattle’s downtown performance hall seeks to invite a broader community inside, and support a more diverse range of pre- and post-concert activities. New welcoming public spaces extend the event experience with opportunities to connect and learn, and an enhanced choreography of experience supports intuitive navigation between gathering and performance venues.
Harmony of Details
The structure of music can be found in design geometries — rhythm inspired rectilinear patterns found in the wood entry portals and Overlook Lounge, while melody drove sinuous forms in the lounge ceilings, furnishings and lighting globes. This interplay is tuned to create a harmony of elements, heightening the visitor experience and offering diverse settings for social connection.
Healthy, Low-Carbon Finishes
The design supports occupant wellness with healthy and low-emitting finishes. The selected carpet reduces embodied carbon by 168,250 kgCO2e, 35% below a comparable sustainable product. With almost an acre of new carpeting in the project, the carbon reduction is substantial, with the added benefit of recyclability.
