Vibrant Spaces for Community Connection

Pedestrian Park and Senior Center Plaza

Issaquah, WA

Through-block Improvements

The Issaquah municipal park redevelopment strengthens walkable connections between the historic downtown and Veterans’ Memorial Field Park through two renewed urban plazas: Pedestrian Park and Senior Center Plaza. Gathering lawns, flexible hardscapes and a cascading water feature define a welcoming gateway to these integrated civic green spaces.

Community Use and Comfort

Accessible paths, regraded activity areas and new seating support visitors of all ages and abilities. A weather-protected shelter and activity lawn near the Senior Center accommodate Tai Chi, bocce and community events, while dynamic lighting extends use into the evening. These improvements encourage outdoor gathering, wellness and engagement year-round.

Honoring the Environment

The design draws inspiration from Issaquah Creek, using native plantings, sculptural forms and water movement to reinforce a strong ecological identity, support pollinators and introduce seasonal color. Raised beds and seat walls respectfully frame the preserved WWII memorial, strengthening cultural continuity. Together, these enhancements promote ecological expression and sense of place.
