AIA Seattle has selected Bert Gregory FAIA for the 2017 AIA Seattle Gold Medal. The Gold Medal is the highest award that AIA Seattle can bestow on one of its members. It recognizes distinguished lifetime achievement in architecture, including design and professional practice and service to the profession, the community, education and the arts.

Bert is a design partner with a focus on projects in the urban realm, including transit-oriented development, mixed use, higher education, civic, workplace and urban design. Current efforts include Press Blocks and Block 136 mixed-use developments in Portland, OR, and a city facility master plan and urban design framework in Boulder, CO. By consistently pushing design to the edges of knowledge, his projects have become nationwide references for high performance, resilient design.

Bert’s design leadership has resulted in four AIA COTE Top Ten Green Project awards, including the REI Seattle Flagship Store and IslandWood, the AIA National Honor Award for Regional & Urban Design, two American Society of Landscape Architects Honor Awards, the National Trust for Historic Preservation Honor Award and the Urban Land Institute Award of Excellence. In addition to his leadership role at Mithun, he has served as Board Chair of Forterra, President of AIA Seattle and in numerous local and national leadership roles.

The AIA Seattle Gold Medal was first introduced in 1984. Since then, its honorees have had a substantial influence in shaping and advancing architecture in the Pacific Northwest as it grows in national and international importance.

Bert will be honored at the AIA Seattle President’s Dinner on June 3, 2017.
